Eleven seasons. Six different champions. Zero predictable outcomes.
The Pakistan Super League has produced some of the most dramatic T20 cricket finals in the world since its launch in 2016, and the PSL winners list tells a story that no single team has monopolized. Two franchises have three titles each, four others have one apiece, and the newest team in the league reached the final in its very first season.
If you want every PSL champion from 2016 to 2026 in one place, complete with results, key performers, and the context that makes each title memorable, this is the complete record.

Season-by-Season Breakdown
PSL 2016: Islamabad United Win the Inaugural Title
The first edition ran entirely in the UAE because Pakistan was not yet hosting international cricket. Islamabad United won the inaugural PSL title in 2016 by defeating Quetta Gladiators, chasing down 175 in 18.4 overs, with Dwayne Smith named Player of the Match for his innings of 73 off 51 balls.
Led by Misbah-ul-Haq, Islamabad United made history as the first-ever PSL champions. It was a clean, professional chase that set the tone for what the league would become: big overseas names mixed with Pakistani talent, genuine competition, and results that nobody could fully predict.
PSL 2017: Peshawar Zalmi and a Historic First on Home Soil
The PSL 2017 final at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on March 5, 2017, was the first-ever PSL final played on Pakistani soil. That alone made it one of the league’s defining moments, and Peshawar Zalmi gave local crowds a reason to celebrate.
Peshawar Zalmi batted first, scoring 148/6 in 20 overs, with Kamran Akmal contributing 40 runs, before restricting Quetta Gladiators to seal the title. Kamran Akmal’s performances throughout that tournament were some of the most entertaining batting Pakistan had seen in the T20 format at the time.
PSL 2018: Islamabad United’s Second Title
Islamabad United returned to lift a second trophy, this time defeating Peshawar Zalmi. Luke Ronchi and Shadab Khan were the standout performers in a display that was described as a clinic in team cricket. Shadab Khan’s emergence as a genuine match-winner with both bat and ball during this tournament put him firmly on the international radar.
PSL 2019: Quetta Gladiators Get Their Reward
Quetta Gladiators had reached two previous finals and come away empty-handed both times. In 2019, they finally converted. Shane Watson played a legendary knock that sealed the trophy against Peshawar Zalmi, who suffered their third final defeat. Quetta won by 8 wickets, one of the most commanding final victories in PSL history.
PSL 2020: Karachi Kings Break Through
PSL 2020 was unlike any other. COVID-19 split the season across two windows, with the final eventually played on November 17, 2020. Babar Azam chased 135 almost single-handedly, finishing unbeaten on 63 in a performance that barely raised a sweat. As of 2026, this is still Karachi Kings’ only PSL title.
For Karachi fans, a city that breathes cricket like few others in the world, that trophy was a long time coming and genuinely emotional.
PSL 2021: Multan Sultans Announce Themselves
PSL 6 moved to the UAE mid-tournament because of COVID-19 concerns in Pakistan. At Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, Multan Sultans posted the highest-ever total in a PSL final: 206/4, with Peshawar having no answer.
Mohammad Rizwan led from the front, and a new powerhouse was born. The Multan Sultans had been competitive for years without ever winning; this was the season that changed their identity completely.
PSL 2022: Lahore Qalandars Finally End the Wait
For six long seasons, Lahore Qalandars had been the PSL’s most popular underachievers. A massive fanbase, quality players, deep resources, and yet no title. Lahore Qalandars, under Shaheen Afridi’s leadership, brought glory with back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023, narrowly defeating Multan Sultans both times.
The 2022 title win was one of the most celebrated moments in the league’s history, not because of how it was won on paper, but because of what it meant to a support base that had waited since day one.
PSL 2023: Lahore Qalandars Defend the Title
Nobody had ever defended a PSL title before. Lahore Qalandars are still the only side to successfully defend their PSL title (2022, 2023). The 2023 final against Multan Sultans went down to the final wicket, which makes it one of the tightest finishes the league has produced.
Shaheen Afridi’s captaincy across both campaigns drew widespread praise, with his aggressive, instinctive approach transforming the team’s belief in high-pressure situations.
PSL 2024: Islamabad United Make it Three
Islamabad United have become the league’s most successful team, claiming titles in 2016, 2018, and 2024. The 2024 final against Multan Sultans was decided on the last ball of the match, making it one of the most dramatic conclusions in PSL history. No team had won three PSL titles before that night.
PSL 2025: Lahore Qalandars Claim a Third Crown
Lahore Qalandars won PSL 2025 on May 25 by chasing down 202, a finish sealed when Sikandar Raza hit a six off the final ball against Quetta Gladiators.
Three titles in four years. That run puts Lahore alongside Islamabad United at the top of the all-time table and confirms their status as the dominant force of this era of PSL cricket.
PSL 2026: Peshawar Zalmi End a Nine-Year Drought
PSL 2026 concluded on May 3, 2026, at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Led by Babar Azam, Peshawar Zalmi defeated the debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen by 5 wickets to end a nine-year trophy drought and win their second PSL title.
The final was not straightforward. Peshawar’s disciplined bowling attack, led by Aaron Hardie’s four-wicket haul of 4 for 24 and tight spells from Nahid Rana and Sufiyan Muqeem, restricted Hyderabad to a modest 129 all out in 18 overs, despite a fighting 54 off 50 balls by Saim Ayub.
The chase went sideways early. Peshawar slumped to 40/4 after losing Haris, Mendis, and Babar Azam, before a decisive 85-run partnership between Abdul Samad (48) and an unbeaten Aaron Hardie (56) turned the tide.
Babar Azam emerged as the top run-getter of PSL 2026, with Aaron Hardie delivering a match-winning all-round display in the final, finishing with 4 for 27 and an unbeaten 56.
This was also notable for being the first final involving a brand-new franchise. The Hyderabad Kingsmen, captained by Marnus Labuschagne, reached the final in their first-ever PSL season, which is an achievement that no debut franchise had managed before.

How the PSL Has Grown: From Dubai to Pakistan
The first PSL season in 2016 was held entirely in the UAE because security concerns prevented international cricket in Pakistan. By 2017, the final had moved to Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. By 2019, full matches were being played in Karachi and Lahore, and by 2023, the entire tournament was back on home soil.
PSL 2026 expanded to eight teams for the first time, adding Hyderabad Kingsmen and one other new franchise to the original six. The eight franchises competing include Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans, and two new teams introduced for PSL 2026.
